Policy Statement - Privacy and Security
Our business depends on our service, integrity, and respect for our customers;
we recognize that client relationships are our most valuable asset. Great Circle Marine Services Inc.
("GCMS") respects and protects your privacy and security; this Policy Statement is a brief outline of
how we do this.
1. Personal and other identifying information.
GCMS exists to bring employers and employees together, therefore we regularly exchange information between
these parties in the course of business. However, GCMS will not under any circumstances or in any
manner, provide your name, mailing address, postal code, email address or any other personal or
identifying information to any other entity, except as required by law.
2. Retention of information.
We collect the minimum information needed to conduct business with you, or that is required by law
for our type of business. All information collected is reviewed yearly and information that is
inactive for up to four years and that is not required to provide service to employers and
employees (actual or potential) or not legally required for long-term purposes (e.g. Accounting,
tax purposes etc.) is purged.
3. Our Web site - greatcirclemarine.com.
Like all companies we may be obliged by law to cooperate fully with
law enforcement officials in any investigation relating to any interaction with
greatcirclemarine.com or purported unlawful activities that may involve interaction
with greatcirclemarine.com.
a) What we collect:
Our Web site uses "cookies." A cookie is a piece of data that a Web site may send
to your browser, which may then be stored on your hard drive. Cookies help sites tailor information
to suit visitors' individual preferences.
Information that our
site's Hosting Provider collects for us is not reported to us on individual visitors but in
aggregate form (this anonymous information cannot be traced to a specific individual user.)
We then analyze this to measure our Web site's performance. For example, this information allows
us to discover the popularity of each of our site's pages and make changes to those that need
improvement. This information includes:
- the Internet domain of your Internet Service Provider, such as "isp1.com" or "isp2.ca" and the IP address
of the computer accessing the Web site, such as "ppp-55"
- the type of browser you are using, such as "Internet Explorer version x" or "Firefox version x"
- the type of operating system you are using, such as Windows, Macintosh or Unix
- the date and time you visit our site and the Web pages that you visit on our site, along with the
address of the previous Web site you were visiting, if you linked to us from another Web site
b) Applicant and Employer Forms:
Our site offers forms for the convenience of applicants and employers, to enable them to provide
information to us, or to request information from us. These forms are protected using Industry
Standard SSL (Secure Sockets Layer.) The information submitted to us on the forms or by any other means
is used to contact applicants and/or employers, and is exchanged between these parties in order
to determine and match their needs.
By submitting your information to GCMS in any manner, you acknowledge that you understand
and accept that the information will be used as stated herein.
c) External sites:
Although our site may contain links to external sites, we are not responsible for the content nor the
privacy and security of those sites. Once you leave greatcirclemarine.com and go to another site,
you are subject to the privacy and security policies of that site. We encourage you to read the
policies of all Web sites you visit, especially if you share any personal information.
4. Unsolicited email.
We do not condone unsolicited commercial email ("spam") nor do we purchase, sell or exchange email lists.
In the course of communicating with us you may give us your email address,
which we will add to our crew inventory list and/or employer contact list (these lists are for our use only.)
Occasionally (and never more than four times a year) we may use these lists to send broadcast emails
with important news or other items of interest, or to update you about our products and services. If you
prefer not to receive such messages, please let us know by replying to any of these emails with the
subject "REMOVE." We will immediately remove your email address from our broadcast list.
5. Changes to Policy Statement
Changes to our Policy Statement will be available on this page as they are implemented.
